Prisoner E-Mails...

Last week I got an email from corrlinks.com saying that a prisoner wanted to add me to his list of contacts. I would get a log in and password and be able to contact this person.

Over the weekend, I got another one saying I had been removed from the prisoner's approved list of contacts. Phew... I'm really glad this was a wrong Erin Thomas... I didn't really want to know that my friend was in Federal Prison.

...and the cheese stands alone.

It's as if he KNEW I had mentioned Wine Erin... her boss is  up to his old tricks again... I got some kind of order information that doesn't make any sense to me...

I've just forwarded it to her. Sigh... When will Scott learn? My guess? When Erin gets another job.

It's been a while, no?

I've been a little busy/lazy lately my friendly followers, but I've stirred up some quality e-mails in the last month. I'll share them with you today... even though I have some work to be doing, I need these out of my inbox...

1. The semi-racist e-mail: This one came with no name attached, no nothing... not even a real name in the e-mail address...

"As I was driving home yesterday, worrying about all the crap going on in Washington and how my life was falling apart, I saw a yard sign that said: NEED HELP? CALL JESUS 1-800-555-3787
Out of curiosity and desperation, I did and a man showed up with a lawnmower!"

2. Erin Number 2 in Seattle, not the same as the Wine Expert, has been the Red Box again.. She got "Everything Must Go" and "Red Riding Hood (2011)." She seems pretty set on girly-ish movies. I wish I could figure out who she is because I am tired of getting her receipts... I have no recourse other than to block Red Box from my inbox according to their less than helpful Help Center person... This may require more research on my part.

3. The young girl from George Mason is at it again... I got her FAFSA e-mail from the school... I don't think she's attending yet because she's not in their student directory as far as I can tell, but she is another one I cannot seem to locate by other means... She is the same girl who tried to reset my password because she REALLY thought my address was her's... gah! It's really hard when I can't locate the other person especially in this instance because I want her to get her student aid information if she needs it.

4. This e-mail comes to us from lovely Ontario, Canada where they use the metric system...

"Hi all!
Looks like the week is shaping up to be great! Supposed to get sunny tomorrow and warmer this week! Going into the 20's by the weekend and sunny (fingers crossed it stays that way) so we can be outside as well at Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!! Yeah! Kris -bring Gilby and Autie Fran and people with allergy's take your pills cuz of the animals. etc. Thanks! Regards, MB"

Ok, so this one makes me sad a little because this woman works at a school, but what are you going to do about it... The other thing that amused me was that she was excited about it being in the 20s, until I realized she meant Celsius. And Thanksgiving is still like 2 months from now... unless you're in CANADA! It's this weekend up there... crazy Canucks...

Ah well, that's all I can say for now.

3 for 1 posting, again

August 22 - I was invited to Lyn's birthday party. Needless to say, I did not attend.

August 28 - I was sent a quote for wedding invitations. Not my wedding. It's that Erin in Lafayette again. Dang it. She's inviting a lot more people than I am.

August 29 - My hairdresser sent me a notice that she left the old place b/c she's starting her own venture. Good for her. Too bad I don't live anywhere near San Carlos, CA...

I am a popular lady this week. I gotta get my hair did so I can have birthday dinner and a wedding. That's just how I roll.

Or, not.

3 for 1 posting

I've been a little busy lately with graduation and school stuff, so I've let the e-mails pile up a little bit. I've got three gems to share today:

1. The Lafayette Public Library wants me to know about their "Book Talk" Newsletter. They've got a Great Authors tour going on right now and their also celebrating Louisiana's Bicentennial this year. Horray for them! They also have genealogy 101 seminars this summer, if people are interested.

2. TK and the Antidote at Out to Lunch Today! When Tyler Kechely and Lacey Claeys join together you can be sure it’ll be a good time! Come on down from 11:30am – 1:00pm. Here’s the food line-up: Carousel will have taco boats, tuna salad, cookies, ice cream, soda; Vanilla Bean will have pad thai, turkey sandwiches, cookies, ice tea, lemonade; Silver Star will have prime rib pepper jack sandwiches.
[Some thoughts: a) I don't know what a taco boat is. b) this comes to me from Helena, WA and c) I don't need any groove added to my Thursdays.]

And, finally...
3. A complete stranger would like me to contribute to her American Cancer Society DetermiNation campaign. Worthy cause, but I don't know you!

Oy. I have a feeling I have two contributing factors working against me. I think some Erins are saying that their e-mails are just "my name" at gmail... and people who assume that their email addresses are as such... And, now that I'm thinking about it... I may have to amend that thought to add - people who sign up for mailing lists and intentionally put the wrong e-mail address. Jerks.

Wrong Erin Thomas IN PERSON EDITION

Yesterday I went to get a massage because my significant other was worried about the Groupon he bought me expiring before I could use it. I made the appointment on Friday and went in Saturday morning a little early because I knew I would have to fill out a form.

I wrote down my name, address, and where I didn't want to be massaged, etc. and then I sat down to wait for the therapist to come get me.

When she came to get me she had a piece of paper with my name on it, but not my address or anything else. She had the WRONG Erin Thomas! Jiminy Christmas. I can't even get away from other Erin Thomases when I go to relax! The receptionist gave the therapist my paper and told me that they'd put in some kind of notifier to differentiate us.

Sheesh. It's weird being me.
___________________________________________________________
I also need to add the forgotten e-mail story.

I got a couple of notifiers from UPS regarding a package delivery to Hillsborough, CA the other day. I got the initial "we've shipped it" and then the completed "we delivered your stuff" e-mails.
I wonder what this person got. I'm often curious about that kind of thing. It weighed in at a pound, so it wasn't very big or heavy. This story is not as amusing as others.

Um, I'm not even sure what to say about this one. I don't know what WEB is. I don't live in Atlanta (and I never have). I'm not a member, nor am I a plan sponsor...
I think it might have something to do with insurance...

Spoke too soon

Wine Erin got another e-mail this week. From the World Trade Center Seattle's Food and Beverage person.

I forwarded it along to her without any reply to him. I hope she got it, as he was trying to order several bottles of Seven Hills Viognier and that just sounds terribly fancy to me.

Thinking about it, I should respond to the guy so he can fix his contact list. If he does that sort of thing.

My computer shut down earlier and I lost some of this post and I do not recall it. Anyway, I was telling Jon about blogging and this blog in particular. I still find it incredibly humorous that I hate wine and this other Erin sells it. I guess that's how it goes.

Third time's the charm?

Today's entry comes to us from a woman who had apparently already been told she had not reached the right Erin Thomas. Her email to me follows:

Hey Erin,

See below, I first sent it to erinthomas##@gmail.com

Subject: Saturday, July 30th at 1pm - Bianca's gathering

Hello,

Below is my sister, Dolores, address:

Please everyone dress very comfortable. She lives on a farm and she might take us all on a lil tour. I’m excited to see everyone.

Have a good day.

So, I replied that she had not yet reached the correct person. I haven't heard back, and I don't really expect to.

The flow of Wine Erin e-mails seems to have been stoppered. I hope that means Erin was able to delete me from her boss's address list. Only time will tell.

Everybody is getting married...

So, today's (yesterday's) wrong Erin was supposed to crop some wedding photos for her friend Emmy, who recently got married. I believe she's making some coasters. Emmy sent the first couple of pictures without any text in the message and I responded that she should double check Erin's e-mail address. She had already sent the second set with cropping requests in the interim. The pictures are really cute, but I'm just going to give you this one:

I believe these folks live in Louisiana. So, congrats to Emmy and Jeff!

In other news, my first google+ wrong Erin came in the form of shared photos from people I don't know. I do not know how to un-share myself... from their pics... Things to learn... Yay!

Redbox - Seattle, WA

So, today's selection from the Seattle - 7/11 Redbox is Guilty Hearts. I had never even heard of this one. This girl likes some terrible chick flicks.

I did find out that it isn't the wine dealer Erin. She said something to the effect of "Oh, hell no,"
when I sent her the last receipt.

Which means that I have no idea how to find this particular chick flick lover.

*Shrug*

In other news, Erin Wine Dealer has been sent to me much less in the last few days. She may have finally fixed her boss's contact list. We shall see, I suppose.

I hope she gets the e-mail... they wanted her to proof the menu for Wednesday. I forwarded it along to her when I saw it... Criminy. It would help if her goshdarn boss would stop sending things to multiple people AND me...

*shrug*

If not for these people... there would be no blog.

Redbox - Seattle, WA

Apparently, I've rented something called "Another Year" from a Redbox at a Walgreens in Seattle, WA... I'm willing to bet it's the wine dealer Erin, but who knows... maybe there's another Erin Thomas living in the same town as her...

I forwarded the receipt to her, we'll see what happens.

Lafayette Realtor Erin Thomas

This is a proof I was sent today for Erin Thomas Keaty of Keaty Realty in Lafayette, LA. There is a second page and the original was in color. It carried the "team" metaphor much to far for my taste, but whatever.

When I told the printer that it was the wrong Erin Thomas he had contacted he thanked me for responding. That's nice.

A response from Wine Dealer Erin!

Sorry about that - you'd think after 2 years of employment, he'd figure it out. Thank you, other Erin Thomas!
--
Cheers,
Erin Thomas

HOLY COW!!! I never thought I'd get a response from this one. She showed me!

Scotty doesn't know.

I got ANOTHER e-mail for wine vendor Erin. This is my response: Scott,
I am almost positive that you need to update your e-mail address book. According to your website, the Erin Thomas who works for Unique Wines can be reached at (address redacted for privacy purposes).

Have a good day,
Erin

Seriously, dude. I have responded to this guy before. Saying "Hey, you don't have the right Erin Thomas!"

He does not appear to get it. Maybe this time he'll update his contacts list. Maybe.

I've never been to the State library of Queensland

I've never even been to Australia for that matter. But, I did receive two different requests to fill out a survey:

"Dear Thomas,,

As a State Library of Queensland e-services card user (or past user), could you spare 10 minutes of your time to complete a short survey? You could win a prize and your feedback will help us keep our collections relevant and up-to-date.

Just go to (survey website edited out). To be eligible to win one of three $100 Coles/Myer gift vouchers (excludes State Library staff) you must complete the survey before 5pm on Monday 13 June 2011.

Thank you for your help

State Library of Queensland"

All formatting left as is. So, my name is not Thomas. And, if you're wondering what Coles/Myer is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coles_Group.

So, I'll not be doing the survey. It is nice to know that Erin Thomas is getting around the world. Remind me sometime and I'll tell you about when I was getting e-mails from the Socialist Workers Party of Ireland. That was great.

The Wine Dealer from Seattle

I received another wine deal e-mail today meant for that lady in Seattle... the details of the e-mail are unimportant. The important thing is that I went to the website of the initial sender and found this other Erin Thomas... her e-mail address is on the site... her GMAIL account address... so, why is it that I can find her e-mail address with a simple search of their webpage, but her own co-workers cannot do the same?

So, I forwarded the e-mail to her address with the message "I think this was meant for you." We'll see how that goes.

Erin Thomas the Wine Dealer from Seattle

I was copied on an e-mail about wine dealings in Seattle today. BUT, because it included the following:
"This electronic message transmission contains information from the Company that may be proprietary, confidential and/or privileged. The information is intended only for the use of the individual(s) or entity named above. If you are not the intended recipient, be aware that any disclosure, copying or distribution or use of the contents of this information is prohibited. If you have received this electronic transmission in error, please notify the sender immediately by replying to the address listed in the "From:" field. "

I will not post any of the actual contents.

That being said, I have received e-mails meant for this woman before. I wish that the people she has contacting her would get the right e-mail address. I sometimes think I should try to set up a network for Erins who get the wrong e-mails.

The Gear Designer

Another one from this morning...

"Here is a more polished but still rough view of what the completed site will look like. If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to contact me. Any and all input is welcomed. If you want to take the sample tour of the designer, click on the "Designer your own gear" link. Everything is pre-chosen, so you'll hit "women's" and then just the "keep going" button.
You are trusted friends and family, so please take this seriously (Bucky).

Thanks,
A. Michael H."

I haven't looked at the website yet, but I'll be sure to let Mike know what I think of it when I tell him that I'm not really one of his trusted friends and family.... I wonder who Bucky is and why he has to be told to take it seriously...

Update: My response to Michael.

"I had to reload the page after going through the design your own gear section because the "X" box didn't work. As long as that is fixed when the page goes "live" it should be great.

Also, you might want to check Erin's e-mail address. I am probably not the one you meant to send this to.

Erin"

From the Bank....

So.... Erin Thomas decided to open a bank account... but she gave them the wrong e-mail address. Mine.

"Dear Erin,

Congratulations. Your new BBVA Compass "Compass Basic Savings" account is ready to be opened. Within three business days, the account will be opened and funded. If you requested checks or a check card, you should receive these in 5 to 7 business days.

If you wish to discuss this further with a Customer Service Representative, please send an email to applyonline@bbvacompass.com or call 1-877-737-7727. Please reference your applicant ID # when you contact us.

Thank you for choosing BBVA Compass for your financial needs."

I do happen to use BBVA Compass myself. I did not, however, open a new account. So, either this is an attempt to get me to reveal personal information about myself for identity theft purposes OR, once again, I've been mistaken for someone else. I'll let you know what happens with this one.

Bachelorette Party T-Shirts

This came in last night (5/25/11) and it included a proof of the t-shirts.

"Hey,

I am trying to see if I can do this design to send to have transfers done. I'm wondering if you could look at it and tell me if it looks right. It will be going on a pink v t-shirt with white stripes on the sleeves. I have it placed on a 9" x 12.75" page. So each design would be 9" x 6 1/4". It's about the same size as the design we used for your bachelorette t-shirts. Trying to see if the lettering is sized right. I also was trying to make the ring band a different color. Let me know what you think or what I might have wrong. Try to learn how to work this program.

Thanks,

Paula

Let me know what you think."

My friend Karenna thinks that I should start replying with my own thoughts... And, I have done this once before... when I was e-mailed about what to get "Mom" for her birthday... I suggested a pony before letting them know they had "the wrong Erin."

Some other recent wedding related e-mails have included a reply-all about a bachelorette/bachelor party in the DC-area and a series of pictures sent via cell phone of a girl in wedding dresses. I am sometimes tempted to let these people know what I think and maybe this is something to explore in further posts.

What do you think?

E-Mail Address

So.... I was one of the first people I knew to get on G-Mail many many years ago. And thus, I was able to be ErinThomas [at] gmail dot com. This has caused some very amusing mishaps in recent years as more people use G-Mail as their primary address. My friend Karen suggested that I begin this blog to chronicle some of the "Wrong Erin Thomas" e-mails I get most days.

As of late, I've been getting a lot of wedding/bachelorette/baby e-mails which has been weird as I recently got engaged and my wedding is in October.

Most of the time I reply to the messages with responses to the effect of: "You haven't got the right Erin Thomas." Only once have I received a weird message back... It was from a woman who was trying to confirm a Mary Kay order with her sales rep.

So, this will be my journal of "The Wrong Erin Thomas." I hope you enjoy it.
